Duncan P. Jones

Duncan Philip Jones, 30, passed away on November 23, 2022, after a 5-year struggle to manage growing symptoms of schizophrenia. Few knew the depth of Duncan’s illness, as he worked daily to maintain a normal routine, work, and relationships. Duncan was known for his generous heart, endless patience and deep kindness to family, friends and the many elderly clients with whom he worked. He will be missed tremendously by all who knew him, but we are comforted that he is relieved of his battle and at home with his Lord.

Duncan’s faith was always an important part of his life, accepting Christ as his Savior at the age of 7. He spent his early years attending Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Annapolis and after college attended Trinity Presbyterian Church. He was an active part of EP’s Battalion ministry program as well as Intervarsity Christian Fellowship during college.

Duncan was a graduate of Indian Creek High School and University of MD Baltimore Campus (UMBC) where he received his B.A. degree in 2016 from the Erikson School’s Management of Aging Services Program. He was inspired to pursue a career in aging services as a result of his close relationships with his grandparents and experiencing his grandfather’s journey with Alzheimer’s. Duncan was much beloved by his many clients as he cared for them in assisted living facilities and in private homes.

With clubs custom-made by his grandfather, Duncan learned to golf at age 5, was a member of the Indian Creek golf team and enjoyed golf into adulthood. He spent many years sailing with his Dad, running his own Whaler, and working on boats in his summer jobs. Cars were also a life-long hobby, and Duncan enjoyed working on his assorted cars and those of his friends.

Beyond being a hobby, Duncan loved to drive because it served a top priority — being with friends and family, no matter where. He was always ready to drive across town, state or country to lend a hand, change a tire, help someone move, or care for someone who was ill. Duncan lived simply, accumulating minimal possessions, preferring to spend his resources traveling to visit, laugh, share stories and time with those he loved.

We will all feel the absence of Duncan’s car pulling into the drive, and receiving his familiar ‘Helloooo’, his big smile and warm hug.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) of Anne Arundel County at https://namiaac.org/get-involved/donate
