Deb Pruitt

Debra Gaye “Deb” Pruitt was born on October 10, 1959 on Tangier Island, VA, the youngest of four children of Kenneth Ray Pruitt, Sr. and Virginia Joyce (Bowden) Pruitt. Deb passed away on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at Shore Health and Rehabilitation Center in Parksley, VA.

Deb deeply loved and was devoted to her family, friends, church, and island. She hosted family cookouts and dock swimming at the crab house in the summer and a delicious and beautifully decorated family Christmas Eve party every year. She was the coolest aunt to her nieces and nephews, and she enjoyed spending lots of time with them, hosting sleepovers, movie nights, crabbing adventures, and rides around the island all piled on her golf cart. She was an Elvis fan, both the man and the music. She also loved her pets over the years, including Sniffles, Minnie, and Presley. She worked hard at her father and brother's crab houses and later managed the family's Islander seafood restaurant. In recent years, she enjoyed volunteering at the Tangier History Museum, where she shared with visitors her knowledge and stories of her island's history and heritage. She enjoyed life's simple pleasures, appreciating nature, loving God and her family and friends, and keeping a nice home. Deb was hilariously funny and clever. Family and friends around her couldn't help but crack up at her humor and quick wit, many of whom often suggested she'd have quite the following if she started a YouTube channel. Her family, friends, and community loved her and will greatly miss her until we see her again in Heaven.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Kenneth Ray Pruitt, Jr. and Dean Pruitt.
