<p>Katharina Engert (nee Bartl), 90, passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 11, 2023. Her years long struggles with Parkinson’s are finally over. Rest in peace Katie. You will be sorely missed. </p><p>Katie was born December 1, 1932 in Banatski Dowr, Yugoslavia. Beloved wife of the late Josef Engert;&nbsp;loving sister of John Bartl (Edith);&nbsp;proud mother of Herman Joe Engert (Pauline), Evelyn Engert (David Corcoran) and Arlene Engert (James Davis);&nbsp;cherished grandmother of Jana Engert, Andrew Engert, Julie Wolf (John) and Laurie Olivos (Timothy);&nbsp;adored great grandmother of Katharina Wolf, Madeleine Wolf and Jackson Olivos;&nbsp;loving aunt to Karla Engert, John Bartl, Sandy Cooney (Timothy);&nbsp;great aunt to Jeffrey Bartl (Nichole Massarello), Kelly Carbonel (Patrick), Hannah Plyer(Lucia), and Audrey Cooney;&nbsp;Katie was a loving Tante (aunt) to many extended relatives and friends. </p><p>Katie and her husband, Joe, were blessed to have a close group of friends (the Gesellschaft) who they met after arriving to the United States in the early 1950s.&nbsp;They raised their families together and in later years continued&nbsp;to meet weekly to play Dominos. She worked for many years as the head of the accounts payable for a renowned advertising agency, Foote, Cone, and Belding, in downtown Chicago. A very clever woman, she loved her games and puzzles. Katie was a mother and a wife above all. Children were a great joy to her. Katie was a proud member of the American Aid Society of German Descendants since arriving in the United States. She was the founder and leader of the club’s Kindergruppe (children’s group) when she was younger and really loved those days. Her passion of late were her great grandchildren. No matter her condition, she always brightened when those babies showed up. </p><p>Visitation will be held on Friday, March 24th at Cooney Funeral Home in Park Ridge from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral Saturday, March 25th, family and friends are asked to meet at Our Lady of Ransom Church in Niles for Mass at 9:30 a.m. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery.&nbsp;In lieu of flowers, contributions&nbsp;to Parkinson’s Foundation&nbsp;http://www.parkinson.org or the American Aid Society of German Descendants&nbsp;https://www.americanaidsocietyofgd.org/make-a-donation are appreciated. </p><p>For information please call 847-685-1002 or visit www.cooneyfuneralhome.com&nbsp;&nbsp; </p>
