James J. Sabella, Esq.

<p>James J. Sabella, Esq., son of Paul S. Sabella and Dorothy Miles Sabella was married to Julia Hong Sabella for 51 years. Their children are Jennifer Sabella (spouse-Brandon Hallock), Jonathan (spouse-Kristen, James (5), Luke (2), Nicholas (1)) and Jordan (fiancée-Yana). Also surviving is his sister, Terry Stuart (spouse-Alan) with numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and in-laws.</p><p><br></p><p>His education credentials include Salutatorian at Stuyvesant H.S., NYC., summa cum laude at Columbia College, valedictorian at Columbia Engineering and Columbia Law Review, Columbia University, NYC. He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Theta Tau and the Bar Association for various states.</p><p><br></p><p>His illustrious law career began at Breed, Abbott, Morgan L.L.C. in 1976. Jim was not only a partner there but also at Brown &amp; Wood which merged into Sidley Austin Brown &amp; Wood and finally Grant and Eisenhofer. Retirement was in 2018.</p><p><br></p><p>His famous cases include: Wells Fargo Bank, Pfizer Securities, Arthur Andersen Worldwide, and Asia Pulp &amp; Paper Securities.</p><p><br></p><p>An avid sports fan, especially for the Yankees, pingpong player, traveler, reader and bridge fanatic, Jim excelled in discussions on sports statistics. Liver Cancer took his life on Sat., March 11, 2023.</p><p><br></p><p>Funeral services will be 11am Saturday at Emanuel Lutheran Church, 197 Manville Road, Pleasantville, NY. Interment will follow at Kensico Cemetery, Valhalla, NY.</p><p><br></p><p>Visitation will be 2-4pm and 7-9pm Friday at Bruce C. VanArsdale Funeral Home, 111 N. Gaston Ave, Somerville.</p><p><br></p><p>In lieu of flowers, etc., please send donations to A.S.P.C.A. (preferably for cats.) Jim is fondly remembered by his friends at Hillsborough Seniors Chapter A where he was a member. We enjoyed his company as he and Julia joined us on several trips. He will be missed. Condolences to Julia and all his family and friends.
