<p>It is with great sadness that the family of Doris Irene Wendt announces her passing on March 13, 2023 at the age of 97, at Riverview Nursing Home, Oak Harbor, Ohio. Doris and her twin sister, Iris, were born on June 6, 1925, to Matilda and William Schubel in Toledo, Ohio.</p><p><br></p><p>Upon graduating from Waite High School, Doris worked for the Gulf Oil Company. She married Alfred Wendt on April 27, 1946. Alfred and Doris started their business, Aldo Nursery, upon Alfred’s discharge from the Army. They specialized in flowering plants and vegetables, wedding flowers, and graveside blankets and wreaths.</p><p><br></p><p>Doris was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oak Harbor and served as a Sunday School teacher in the preschool class for many years. She was also a member of the Women’s Altar Guild Society. Doris was a long time member of the Town and Country Garden Club and enjoyed entering flowers in various flower shows. Doris enjoyed bowling and loved to listen to polka music when working in the greenhouse.</p><p><br></p><p>Doris will be lovingly remembered by her children, Jim (Pat) Wendt, Kathleen (John) Fawley, Janet (Joel) Burg, Dale Wendt, and Roger (Tanya) Wendt; grandchildren, Kim Wendt, Dan (Lauri) Wendt, Todd Wendt, Ben (Kristi) Henry, Matt (Emily) Henry, Brian Fawley, Lisa Fawley, Tyler Burg, Kelsey (Cody) Wright, Erin (Gary) Michel, Kaitlin (Travis) Paten, Kyle Wendt, and Emma Wendt. She is survived by 16 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Doris will also be missed by Dorothy (Wendt) Grau, Dan Henry, and Roger (Shelly) Jones. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Alfred, sister, Iris Weirich, son, David Wendt, daughter, Phyllis Henry, and granddaughter, Deborah (Wendt) Jones.</p><p><br></p><p>Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 19, 2023 from 2-8 p.m. at Robinson- Walker Funeral Home, Oak Harbor, Ohio. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 20, 2023 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Oak Harbor, with burial to follow in Salem Township Union Cemetery, Oak Harbor. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Oak Harbor. OH or ProMedica Hospice of Fremont, OH.</p><p><br></p><p>The family would like to thank the staff at Riverview Nursing Home for their care of Doris during her final years.</p><p><br></p>
