<p>Franklin Powell Hastings, age 82, of Whaleyville, MD died Tuesday, March 7, 2023 at home with his family at his side. He was born in Whaleyville and was the son of the late Herbert and Florence Hester Vickers Hastings.</p><p><br></p><p>Frank’s early career spanned several occupations including enlistment in the Army and later the Air Force, as well as auto mechanic, body shop repairman at Barrett’s Chevrolet, later owner of his own body shop, insurance adjuster and serving in the Coast Guard Reserve. But most of his career was spent as a law enforcement officer specializing in firearms instruction and tactical training. He worked for the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office and then the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office eventually retiring from the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office in 2004.</p><p><br></p><p>Franklin is survived by four children, Diane H. Brinker of Whaleyville, James C. Hastings (Andrea) of Dorchester, NJ, Mark L. Hastings and Tracey L. Milam (Perry) Milford, DE, one brother, James Hastings of Willards, MD; grandchildren, Charles Brinker, Austin Hastings, Taylor Hastings, Amanda Hastings, Amber Andrew, Kristopher Staton, Bethany Perry, Jessica Arthur, Ryan Hastings, Michael Hastings and Engelleighna Hastings and twelve great grandchildren.</p><p><br></p><p>He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Patricia A. Hastings; two brothers, Charles Hastings and Donald Hastings; one sister, Helen Phillips.</p><p><br></p><p>A private service will be held at Bishop-Hastings Funeral Home. Burial will be at Dale Cemetery in Whaleyville.</p><p><br></p><p>In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Coastal Hospice, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802.</p><p><br></p>
