Sandra V. Ziegler, 80, of Putnam, passed away Sunday March 12, 2023, 11:58 am at her home in Putnam surrounded by loved ones.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday March 18, 2023, 10:30 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Henry. Fr John Bosco Mujuni will officiate. Private family burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Henry. Memorials may be directed to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or to the charity of the donor’s choice. Calvert & Johnson Memorial Home, Henry, is in charge of arrangements.

Sandra was born June 22, 1942 at the Henry Hospital, Henry, IL to Clifford and Virginia (Mattingly) Lopeman.

She is survived by her siblings; Karol (Bill) Real, of Henry; Phyllis Catton, of Dallas, TX; Donna (Stan) Shanks, of Henry; Marty Mahowald, of Redding, CA; Tim Lopeman, of Lebanon, IN; Dan (Tina) Lopeman, of Mt. Juliet, TN; Gary (Robin) Lopeman, of Chenoa, IL ; Merna (Fred) Krietemeyer, of Chillicothe, IL ; Gloria Dunn of Putnam; and many nieces and nephews which she adored and treated as her own.

She was preceded in death by her husband Russell Ziegler of 58 years of marriage, just 24 days earlier; her parents, Clifford and Virginia Lopeman, infant sister Marsha and brother Jeff; brothers-in-law, Steve Mahowald and Carlo Troia.

Sandy taught for 37 years at Sparland High School, Senachwine Grade School and Henry Grade School retiring in 2005. She had a love for what she did and believed every child was unique and special. She was always enthusiastic in making a difference in their lives.

Her passion of being an avid seamstress and quilter led her to many, many projects which included bridal gowns, bridesmaids, prom, flower girls and many other dresses. She welcomed any sewing challenge!

Sandy volunteered in various organizations which included the Perdew museum, Marshall-Putnam County Fair and many others. She loved to snowmobile and ride 4 wheelers with Russ and good friends and family to Wisconsin. Sandy had a love for fresh flowers inside and out of her home.
