Bobbie Jean Fann Obituary

For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God: Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another; though my reins be consumed within me. ~Job 19:25-27

Matriarch...Political Activist...Community Leader...Visionary...Choral Director...Songstress...Pastor...Preacher...Woman of GOD. These were her earned titles, and the earmarks of her testimony.

Rev. Dr. Bobbie Jean Dixon Fann was born in Sarasota, Florida on Friday, February 28, 1941, to the parentage of the late Jake Dixon and Clarion B. (Dixon) King. She matriculated through the educational system of Johnson County Public School System. She graduated from Turner Theological Seminary College in Atlanta, Georgia, and earned a Doctorate in Theology from Jacksonville Theological Seminary in Jacksonville, Florida.

Having a vested interest in public service, Rev. Dr. Fann had the singular distinction of serving as the first African American City Council woman in Adrian, Georgia. She also served as Justice of Peace in Johnson County from 1981-1985. During her tenure, she was accessible, trustworthy, and diligent. Being a dedicated community servant-leader, she was a candidate for Probate Court in Emanuel County in 2002. Dr. Fann was a member of the Adrian Community Club, in which she dutifully and conscientiously served in various roles, neither seeking credit nor bestowing blame.

With an open heart, compassionate spirit, and a zeal for sharing GOD's Blessings with others, Dr. Fann served as a foster parent for many years for the State of Georgia Department of Juvenile Services. Although she was the biological mother of six children, she was the surrogate mom for countless others. She was instrumental in providing recreational activities for the youth of Adrian, Georgia, by spearheading an intra-state league of softball teams that traveled throughout Middle Georgia. Not only did she encourage those under her care and supervision to develop athletic skills, she motivated them to cultivate social skills and societal awareness.

Dr Fann possessed an eloquent voice, whether used for speaking, preaching, or singing. She organized and served as the only president for the duration of the Adrian Community Choir for over 30 years. A unabashed lover of Gospel music, she was well known and highly regarded as a gospel soloist in her early years. Her rendition of songs such as “Use me Lord in Thy Service,” “99 and a Half Won't Do,” “Heaven is my Goal,” and “Trouble in my Way,” were unforgettable classics that could rouse an entire congregation.

At an early age, she united with White Grove Baptist Church where she served faithfully for many years. Later she was affiliated with Saint James Baptist Church where she continued to grow in her faith until she was called into the ministry. Upon receiving and obeying her calling to the ministry, she united with the Mount Moriah AME Church of Swainsboro, Georgia. There she served until she received her first pastoral appointment. She served at the following churches as Pastor: Saint Phillip AME in Greensboro, Georgia, Blount Chapel AME in Bartow, Georgia, Little Pine Hill in Davisboro, Georgia, Fountain Grove AME in Irwinton, Georgia, Saint Paul AME in Sandersville, Georgia, Rockwell CME in McRae, Georgia, Mount Pleasant AME in Wrightsville, Georgia, Greater New Liberty in Thomson, Georgia, Pleasant Hill AME in Wadley, Georgia, Neeler AME in Davisboro, Georgia, and Neeler Chapel AME in Wrightsville, Georgia. After retiring from the AME Church, she united with Corinth CME in McRae, Georgia.

Dr. Fann demonstrated that the denomination of church was not as important as the doctrine of faith. Where there was the worship of GOD in spirit and in truth, there could she abide. Additionally, she served as a certified chaplain and counselor for the Georgia Department of Corrections.

A renowned hairdresser, Dr. Fann was a master beautician with press and curl, especially for special occasions, celebrations, and Easter. If a red-carpet moment needed a picture-perfect hairdo, Dr. Fann was the one to call. Her gifted hands could literally take a little hair and create a crown of glory.

Dr. Fann had an unyielding, uncompromising desire to share the wondrous Love of GOD, not only in sermons, but in her daily activities. Her love for others was transformative and edifying. She had the unique ability to connect with people regardless of their status or position. Above all, she trusted GOD, she uplifted the Name of JESUS, and she rejoiced in the upbuilding of GOD's earthly tabernacle.

Rev. Dr. Bobbie Fann left this world of work to ascend to the Heavenly realm of rest on Monday, March 13, 2023. Other than her parents, one child, Gary Eugene Dixon, preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Annie P. King, and two brothers: Leonard Palmer and Eddie Dixon.

She leaves a legacy of love to her children: Teresa (Robert) Jefferson, Terra T. Dixon, Clayton Dixon, Steven A. Dixon, and Elgin (Terri) Dixon; her siblings: James (Susie) Dixon, and Larry (Rosalind) King; and one sister-in-law, Bernice Dixon. She leaves eleven grandchildren: Markiee Jones, Kennyatta/Kim (Darnell) Sanford, Jermaine Dixon, Tuwanna Moss, Mehoshi (Charles) Pullen, Brandon Jefferson, Whitney Dixon, Kristen Dixon, Robert (Jasmine) Jefferson, Kameron Dixon, and Clayton Dixon Jr.; and a host of great-grandchildren. Dr. Fann adopted as sons: Marcel McManus, Tyson Daniels, and Tywon Daniels. She leaves a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives, parishioners, and dear friends.
