Obituary

COHOES Jeanne C. Steciuk, 79, passed away peacefully Friday, March 10, 2023 at her residence.

Born and educated in Cohoes, Jeanne was a lifelong resident of the city. She was the daughter of the late Louis “The Fiddler” and Beatrice Baillargeon Verchereau, and wife of the late Robert S. Steciuk, Sr.

Jeanne had been employed as a CNA at Our Lady of Hope in Latham for many years and was a member of St. Joseph’s Church.

Family was the most important thing to Jeanne. She was a loving and supportive wife, and a strong mother to her boys. Early on, Jeanne, Bob, and the boys would take road trips, pack up the station wagon with a big wooden box on top and drive. As the boys got older, the family took to hiking the Adirondacks, taking on the challenge of completing the ADK46. Jeanne was a tough lady, and persistent when she wanted to

reach a goal. The family would often spend 4-5 days hiking and camping with the next peak always just in sight. Jeanne delighted in a fun, competitive rivalry with her boys. She instilled this competitive spirit in them, and they carry it with them to this day.

Jeanne was an avid runner, completing numerous local and national marathons. Later, she and her husband continued to embark on new adventures – multiple cross country bicycle trips where they would take off with little more than the shirts on their backs. They tackled the Winter ADK46 – trudging through snow and ice, no doubt laughing together along the way.

In her later years, Jeanne spent more quiet time close to home, gardening and keeping up the house. Her home was the family meeting place – pictures of the family throughout the years dot the walls and shelves. Lovingly referred to as “Memere” by the newer additions to the family, everyone enjoyed celebrating holidays in her Cohoes home, picnics in the backyard, burgers on the firepit. Her door was always open and she always had a smile on her face. She was dearly loved and will be missed.

Jeanne is survived by her loving children, Robert S. Steciuk, Jr. (Margaret) of Florida, Frank J. Steciuk (Cindy) of Queensbury, Peter A. Steciuk (Maureen) of Lake George and Paul B. Steciuk (Justine) of Saratoga Springs; and by her siblings, Frank Verchereau (Dee) of Cohoes and Anne Phillips (Bill) of Florida. She is also survived by her 13 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Jeanne will be laid to rest in peace by her loving husband’s side in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Waterford.
