As a young child, she and her family moved to Pine Bluff, where she was a 1970 graduate of Pine Bluff High School. After high school she attended State College of Arkansas (now University of Central Arkansas) where she studied accounting.

She began her accounting career in Pine Bluff at Hollis, McClain & Howell CPAs in 1974. She was a staff accountant for many years before transferring to Baird, Kurtz & Dobson where she was in charge of many local accounts with the firm. In 1993, she went to work for the accounting department of SAJ Distributors/USA Drug. There, Margaret became the Vice President of the Accounting Department, a position she held until the transfer of SAJ to Walgreens in 2012. She was currently employed with Agents Mutual Insurance Company as an accountant.

On December 1, 1973, she married Rickey Works. Together they moved to Sheridan, Arkansas, and after a short time they moved back to Pine Bluff. There they have made their lives for nearly fifty years.

Margaret enjoyed camping with her family, spending summers at Lake DeGray. She loved to cook, passing down that love to her daughter and niece, reading was a favorite pastime, along with cross stitch and crosswords.

Margaret was an avid basketball fan and supported the Lady Razorbacks. She looked forward to attending games in Fayetteville and even followed them to the Final Four. March Madness was one of her favorite times of the year.
