Gene B. Byrum Obituary

Gene B. Byrum, 94, of Bartonia, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, March 12, 2023, at the Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville.


He was born on September 17, 1928, in Racine, Wisconsin, to the late Clyde F. and Rosabelle (Oren) Byrum.


In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Eileen (Pence) Byrum in 2002; and his daughter, Barbara Clapp.


Gene spent his whole life in Bartonia, Indiana. Eventually appointing himself as Mayor. He had an extensive knowledge of horses, buying, selling, and riding. He passed this love of horses down to his children and grandchildren. Gene was a salesman his whole life. He was a Dairy Maid Milkman for 25 years, until Dairy Maid closed. He then went to work as the candy man of Fishers in Union City, Indiana. Gene loved spending time with his family, traveling to flea markets and casinos.


Gene is survived by his daughters, Pamala (Paul) Pollock, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Sandra (Byron) Wogoman of Greenville; his 8 grandchildren; his 18 great grandchildren; and his 6 great-great grandchildren.


A celebration of Gene's life will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, March 17, 2023 at Tribute Funeral Homes, Greenville campus, with Ammy Nienaber and Austin Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow in Greenville Union Cemetery.


Gene's family will be receiving guests on Friday, from 11:00 AM until the time of the service at 1:00 PM at the funeral home.
