<p>Richard K. Spiegel was born in Waterloo, Iowa on July 14, 1940 to Dolores and Richard K. Spiegel, Sr. He was reunited with them on March 11, 2023 at the age of 82. He was also reunited with the love of his life, Dorothy Bland Spiegel to whom he was married for 46 years, and his beloved brother, Larry Spiegel. He was survived by his two brothers Tom and Jim Spiegel, his sister, Jackie Fischels, his daughter Carol DeManche, his son Timothy Spiegel, four grandchildren, many cousins, nieces, nephews, great grandchildren and great nieces and nephews, all adored by him. When he spoke about his family, you would have thought they were all royalty. To Richard, they were.<br> <br> He was an amazing father to his children, but also took on a father role in the life of his nieces and nephews who lived close by. Additionally, he was a strong mentor for many scouts, church members and employees through the years.<br> <br> Throughout his life, Richard was wholeheartedly devoted to the Catholic faith. He immersed himself in the church and participated in many leadership roles. He was a long-standing member of the Knights of Columbus; he served on the Parish Council for several decades holding a variety of positions including both President and Vice President. He served as a Boy Scout troop leader, and held many volunteer positions in the church throughout his lifetime. One of his many passions was supporting the pro-life movement. In his younger years he served as a Military Police Officer for the United States Air Force. He went on to work as a Manager for Albertsons Grocery Store where he retired after 26 years of dedication. Following his retirement he became a volunteer for the Abilene Medical Mission. Richard remained active throughout his life and attended daily Mass up until the last two weeks of his time here. He never met a stranger. He was loving and kind to all, and spent his life in service to God. To know him was to love him.<br> <br> A Rosary will be held at Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel, 5750 Hwy. 277 South, Abilene, TX on Monday, March 20, 2023, 6pm -8pm.<br> <br> A Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church, 5410 Buffalo Gap Rd., Abilene, TX on Tuesday, March 21st at 11:00 a.m., followed by a luncheon in the Parish Hall.<br> <br> In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Holy Family Catholic Church, Abilene, Texas, in his honor and memory. </p>
