Elijah H. "Eli" Harris Jr. Obituary

Elijah "Eli" Harris, Jr. was born in Omaha, Nebraska on February 15, 1955 to Elijah, Sr. and Carrie Harris. He was a very beloved son to Elijah and Carrie. Elijah became a baptized believer at Mount Nebo Baptist Church at an early age. Elijah, also known to his loved ones as "Junior" and "Elijah Juan," attended Technical High School and enlisted into the United States Navy his Senior year. After being retired with a disability from the US Navy in 1973, Elijah enrolled in Omaha Technical Trade School, where he earned an Auto Body Technician certification. Elijah had an infatuation with fancy cars and would buy, drive, and sell them as a hobby. He was also an avid lover of shopping: (fine clothes and jewelry, Stetson hats, military fatigue, cowboy hats and boots, Stacy Adams shoes, and an expert at pawn shop trading)--but most of all, Elijah loved people and was always ready for reconciliation. Elijah had an infectious smile and larger than life personality. He was a natural jokester and entertainer. Elijah was known to "light up" a room with his smile and engaging conversations. Elijah never met a stranger, was a collector and distributor of the Holy Bible, an endless giver of gifts, and cherished special celebrations with his family. He spent most of his time: driving, walking for exercise, listening to a wide range of music and dancing, with his children and grandchildren, enjoying family parties, eating delicious food, drinking Budweiser, smoking cigarettes, and helping others in need. While all his needs were met, Elijah actively blessed others through the many blessings he received. Elijah's health began to fail him October of 2015, but with the dedicated devotion of his family, friends, and special nurses (Carmelita, Mindy, and Maria) at Florence Home Healthcare; he fought a good fight and kept his faith until the end. Elijah was called home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 14, 2020 at 8:48 a.m. at Florence Home Healthcare. Elijah was preceded in death by his parents: Elijah and Carrie Harris, Sr., special nephews: Johnny Edwards, Jr. and Kevin Pierce, Sr., beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is survived by his loving children: Marlin (Helen) Jones, Sr., of Killeen, TX; Camille Curtis, Elesha Harris, Elijah Harris III, and other children--all of Omaha, NE; Sisters: Elaine Edwards and Sharon Harris; Brothers: Benjamin (Ramona) Harris of Lee's Summit, MO and Eddie Harris, Sr., of Omaha, NE; special Uncle Johnny (Doris) Dixon, Sr., of Alma, AR; 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; several very special nieces and nephews, Shirley Curtis, and a host of loving family and friends.
