Christopher Thomas Kunkel, 49, passed away suddenly on July 24, 2022 of natural causes.

Perhaps Chris would have been the world's greatest pirate had he been born in 1673. Or the most epic Dark Lord of the Sith had he been born a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. However, he was born January 2, 1973 to Chuck and Mary Kunkel in Omaha, Nebraska.

Chris was a man of many eclectic talents: draftsman, bass player, father. His greatest contribution was his two girls. However, probably his second greatest was to the world of martial arts. Twice inducted into the United States Martial Arts Association's International Hall of Fame, in 2001 as Founder of the Year and in 2005 as Weapons Instructor of the Year, Chris was the owner and head instructor at Exel Martial Arts where he taught a style of weapons and hand-to-hand fighting he developed called Ioncomhlainn (Irish term for "fit for fighting").While living in Las Vegas, he worked positions as casino security and casino host.

Chris had a lifelong love for professional wrestling, Star Wars, and the DC Universe. He was always learning about whatever subject had grabbed his attention. Subjects varied widely from father's rights, fixing his motor scooter, the birds at his feeders, building his own travel trailer, and mythology.

Chris is survived by his daughters Selena Kunkel of Burlington, Vermont and Brianna Kunkel of Kansas City, Missouri, parents Chuck and Mary Kunkel, sister Becky Jackson along with her husband Jeremy and their children Max, Joe and Elizabeth of Omaha, Nebraska, grandmother Colleen Kunkel of Remsen, Iowa along with many aunts, uncles and cousins.

The memory of his quick wit and unwavering loyalty will live on in our hearts as we navigate life without him.

Memorial Service will be held at the Forest Lawn Funeral Home on Monday, August 15, 2022 at 1 pm.
