Journey of LifeLouis D RichardsonMarch 17, 1952 - July 27, 2017Louis D. Richardson was born March 17, 1952 in Shreveport, Louisiana. He is the youngest of five children born to the late Mr. Earl and Mrs. Hattie B. Richardson of Mansfield, LA. Louis accepted Christ as his Savior in August 1962 at the Zion Hill Baptist Church, Pelican, LA, where the Rev. F. G. McHenry was pastor at the time.Louis attended the All Saints High School of Pelican, LA for elementary and secondary education. He graduated in May 1970 with class valedictorian honors. Louis was proud of his Mighty Badger roots. He still supported (financially and through attendance) the school. He served as an Alumni Advisor until his passing.After completing high school, Louis enrolled is Southern University, Baton Rouge, LA in June 1970. He was awarded the Bachelor of Architecture degree with Honors in May 1975.While attending college, Louis met and married Margaret Garrett of Crowley, LA, the love of his life, September 20, 1975. To this union two children were born, David Ryan (deceased) and DeAndra Renee.After graduating from college, he worked for R.W. Booker Associates in St. Louis, Missouri. After one and a half years, Louis accepted a position with the Army Corps of Engineers in Omaha, Nebraska, in August 1976. Louis remained employed at the Corp for the remainder of his career. After 41 and half years, he retired January 3, 2017 as Chief of Construction Technical Management.Upon his arrival in Omaha, Louis was introduced to the Pilgrim Baptist Church. He and Margaret joined in May 1978. He served the church well. He served in many positions - Superintendent of Sunday School, Sunday School Teacher, Chairman of the Deacon's Ministry, Finance and Culinary Ministries and wherever service was needed. Also upon arrival to Omaha, Louis discovered family members who now have preceded him in death, Charles and Lilian Kimes, became special parents to Louis and Margaret while living in Omaha.In addition to his service at Pilgrim, Louis was devoted to the work of the New Era Baptist State Convention of NE, Inc. as well as National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc. He served three terms as president of the New Era Laymen. In the community, Louis was President of the Pilgrim/Omaha Economic Development Corporation and served on the Board of Directors for the Omaha Habitat for Humanity.Louis leaves to mourn his passing, his wife of 42 years, Margaret, daughter - DeAndra and granddaughter - Journey. Also, sisters Eva R Youngblood, Shreveport, LA and Eula M. Richardson - Mansfield, LA; Brothers Douglas E Richardson and William G.(Ophelia) Richardson - Mansfield, LA. Sisters-in-law: Shelia (Jeffery) DeLoach, Brandon, FL; Glenda (Paul) Johnson, Dallas, TX; Marilyn Bluford, Colorado Springs, CO, Claudette Bunting, Lafayette, LA. Brothers-in-law: Brent Garrett, California, and Ricky Garrett. In addition, Louis leaves to mourn: the Pilgrim Baptist Church family, Army Corps of Engineers family and many personal friends in Omaha and around the country.
