Rose J. Neal

Rose Jean Neal was born to Steven and Helen Wanton on October 15, 1923 in Jacksonville, Florida. She was the second oldest of three siblings. Rose married Sercy Leon Dunbar-Neal and they had two daughters, Donna and Nedra Neal. Rose moved to Los Angeles, California where she met Reginald Baker Denkins in which Reginald (Pookie) Bruce Denkins was born. While living in Los Angeles, California, Rose worked the assembly line at North American Aviation during World War II. She attended Figueroa Church of Christ and was baptized and gave her life to Christ. Rose's favorite scripture was Psalm 23. In April of 1970, Rose drove her 3 children, with her bible on the dashboard, through the snow of Wyoming to Omaha, Nebraska and Reginald followed later. Rose worked at Evans Cleaners, Campbell's Soup, and Pendleton Woolen Mills. Rose loved taking care of her mother, the late Helen Wanton and she loved her Shay-Shay. She also loved sewing, cooking/baking, fishing, traveling, listening to jazz music, particularly Lou Rawls, and taking care of her grandchildren. Rose Jean Neal was preceded in death by Sercy Leon Neal and Reginald B. Denkins, Brother, David Wanton, Sister Helen Watkins, Son-in-Law, Joe Lipscomb and her favorite Aunt, Rosa Manning, and God Daughter Carlotta. She leaves to cherish her memory, daughters, Donna Neal-Lipscomb and Nedra Neal, son, Reginald (Pookie) Bruce Denkins; sixteen grandchildren: Dejuan Cribbs, Dion Cribbs, Stacy (Willy) Jackson, Renesha Cribbs, Steve (Shenisa) Neal, Roscoe (Nicole) Vaughn (Las Vegas, NV), Mark (Andrea) Neal, Marvin Neal, Marcella (Howard) Dial, Stephanie (Cedric) Johnson-Mahonga, Marquita Cribbs, Felicia Neal, Brandy Neal, Nate Neal, Charlie Neal, and Rosie Neal; 36 great grandchildren and 12 great-great grandchildren. Viewing will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., Thursday, May 20, 2021 at Forest Lawn Funeral Home. Graveside service begins at 12:30 P.M., Friday, May 21, 2021 at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Please gather at Forest Lawn Funeral Home by 12:15 P.M. if you are attending the graveside service. A procession will begin at the funeral home to the cemetery at 12:30 P.M.
