His Life's JourneyJ.C. Stennis Sr. was born March 3, 1945, to Ethel Cornelius Stennis and Genie Haynes. In 1950, he moved with his family to Madison, then to Widener, Arkansas with his grandparents, aunts and uncles. At an early age, J.C. accepted Jesus Christ and attended the Spiritual Church #24 with his family. He began his quest for knowledge by attending Eldridge-Butler Elementary School, and Lincoln Junior High. In 1962, J.C. became deathly ill and could no longer attend the local high school as other children, but assisted his mother and family with the duties of the family farm. At age of 15, J.C. was diagnosed with the childhood disease of Diabetes, which he endured until death.The eldest of 12 siblings, J.C., affectionately called "Doola," in his younger years by his mother and aunts; decided to pursue a better life for himself; moved to Omaha, Nebraska in 1963; at the age of 16, joining his uncles in the construction industry.With the experience and skills he'd gained in the construction business, he became a Master Carpenter in 1970 with the premier company, Peter Kiewit Construction Corporation, and a member of Omaha's Local Carpenter's Union. His skill and dedication to his craft can be seen throughout the city of Omaha and surrounding areas.With his gained business experience in carpentry and construction, along with his love for fishing and cooking; the entrepreneurial spirit lead him to launch Stennis Construction Company (1981), and two fish market and restaurant businesses that served the local area (1986).J.C. is the proud father of 4 beautiful children; 15 grand-children, and 6 great-grand-children, and continued to share their accomplishments with all those that would listen.In 1992, J.C. returned to his spiritual roots, and re-dedicated his life to the Lord Jesus Christ. He was a member of Love Deliverance Temple Church of God in Christ (Judah Kingdom Center). As a member, he served the ministry as a deacon, minister, hospitality, and trustee board member, and other ministries of helps until he was unable to attend or serve, due to a decline in his health.J.C. is preceded in death by Genie Haynes (father), Ethel Cornelius Stennis-Thomas (mother), Van Thomas Sr. (step-father), Melvin Nunn, and Henry Thomas (brothers). He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Sharon Rowe(Dwayne-Fianc'), Jonesboro, AR; JayCee Stennis Jr.(Nikhole), Columbus, MS; Nicola L. Vincent(Keith), Nashville, TN; and Angela Gould (Richard), Kansas City, MO; his grandchildren, and great grand-children, along with his 10 siblings; B. Fred Stennis(Corrine),CA, ,Van Thomas Jr.(Regina),NE, Arthur-Lee Thomas(Diane), NE, Rosie Cain-Henry(Winston),FL, Isaiah Thomas(Brenda),GA, Sherman Thomas, NE, Ethel Cornelius Thomas, FL, Samuel Thomas (Vivian), AR, Johnny E. Thomas, NE, Marcus M, Thomas(Suzie),NE, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
