Alvie McClure Obituary

Mr. Alva Earl “Alvie” McClure, 83 of Mt. Vernon went to live with Jesus on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at his home surrounded by his wife of 62 years, Teddy Lois, his daughter and son-in-law, Jeanine and Larry Lawrence. He was born in Rockcastle County, KY on May 17, 1939 the son of Milt “Cooney” and Bertha Swinney McClure. He was retired from Lamar Advertising, where he worked for 40 years, and was a member of Ottawa Baptist Church.

Alvie was an avid UK Basketball fan and enjoyed fishing and a good chew of “baccer”. In his younger days, he loved to go coon hunting and ginseng digging. He never met a stranger; always ready to tell a story and have a good laugh or two. He loved being with his family, especially his grandsons and great-grandkids, of whom he was so proud.

He is survived by his wife, Teddy Lois McClure; his daughter, Jeanine Lawrence and husband Larry of Brodhead; grandsons: Dustin Lawrence and wife Timber, and Jacob Lawrence and fiancé Alyssa Lucas, all of Brodhead; and his great grandchildren: Zakkary, Brantley, Chyannah, and Ivy Lawrence. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters: Rosie and Elizabeth McClure; four brothers: Elsie, Emmett, William, and Ovie McClure; his father and mother-in-law, Stanley and Mazie Reynolds McClure; and a brother-in-law, Theodore “Ted” McClure.

Funeral services for Mr. McClure will be conducted Wednesday, March 15 at 1:00 PM at the Dowell & Martin Funeral Home Chapel by Bro. Tim Hampton. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 9:00 PM Tuesday.

In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to Hospice Care Plus, 208 Kidd Rd., Berea, KY 40403. In addition, the family would like to give special thanks to Lifeline Home Health nurses and to Dad’s Hospice Care Plus team, with a very special thank you to his nurse, Julie Mullins and nurse’s aide, Diane Moore.
