Harry Glen Barnett, age 78, of Carrollton and formerly from the Wellington and Holden area, passed away at 8:19 p.m., Friday, March 10, 2023, at Carroll House in Carrollton, Missouri.

Harry was born on May 20, 1944, in Buckner, Missouri, to his parents, Orville Leroy and Annabell (Winfrey) Barnett. He graduated from Fort Osage High School in 1962. Then, he enrolled at the University of Missouri to get a degree in Agricultural Education.

He met a sweet young lady, Anna Jerene Haller, on a blind date which also happened to be celebrating her 21st birthday. Only eight months later, he asked for her hand, and they were united into marriage in Buckner, Missouri, at the Oakland Methodist Church on August 10, 1968. Harry and Jerene shared fifty-four years of a blessed marriage.

Harry was a teacher at La Bell High School and Wellington High School. He loved everything to do with agriculture so much that he left teaching to help his brother, Leroy, on the family farm in Wellington. Harry and Jerene relocated to Holden, Missouri, to operate the farm with his father-in-law, Stephen Haller, Jr. They relocated once more in 1989 to Carrollton, where they started their business, Haller Disposal. They sold their trash disposal service in 1999 and enjoyed their retired life together.

Harry was most happy spending his time with Jerene, and watching her bowl was one his favorite pastimes, as she an excellent bowler and it filled his heart to see her win so often. Their biggest passion was going away to their lake house at Thomas Hill Lake. They both enjoyed fishing and boating, and Harry loved to navigate the boat while watching Jerene waterski. He especially enjoyed watching the Kansas City Royals and the Kansas City Chiefs games. Harry also liked to work on puzzles. He was always tinkering and fixing things or had projects he was in the middle of repairing. For example, he recently repaired a non-running go-cart that belonged to his grandchildren, and to their surprise, they watched as grandpa drove it up the driveway in perfect working condition. He adored his grandchildren and loved spending time with them, playing checkers and teaching them card games.

Harry was an active and long-time member of the Carrollton United Methodist Church. In addition, he was highly active in the community and proud of the achievements they met as members of the Kiwanis Club of Carrollton. Harry also served on the Carrollton Park Board, H.E.L.P. Services of Carroll County Board, and several Church Boards.

Harry is survived by a daughter, Phyllis Ann Brewe and her husband Scott of Waverly, a son, Seth Andrew Barnett and his wife Devin of Carrollton; four grandchildren, Montgomery Ross, Brock Barnett, Grayson Johnson, and Blakely Barnett; two sisters-in-law, Karen Butler and Mary Mae Flynn and her husband Jim; a niece, Shelly Fitzpatrick; two nephews, Nicholas Flynn, and James Barnett and his wife Karla; a special cousin, Peggy McKay, and many friends he has made over the years through his business, the community, his church, and the Kiwanis Club of Carrollton.

Besides his parents, Harry was preceded in death by his wife, Jerene, who recently passed on October 28, 2022; a son, Craig Barnett; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Stephen Haller, Jr and Phyllis; a brother Leroy Barnett and his wife Lois; and a brother-in-law Lynn Butler.

A funeral service to honor this remarkable man will commence at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at the United Methodist Church of Carrollton, with Rev. Poese U. Vatikani officiating the service.

A visitation for family and friends to gather will begin one hour prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the church.

Following the service, we will drive in procession to the committal, where we will place Harry to eternal rest beside his wife of fifty-four years Anna Jerene in Carroll Memory Gardens, Carrollton, Missouri.

Pallbearers: Seth Barnett, Scott Brewe, James Barnett, Neal Barnett, Brock Barnett, and Grayson Johnson.

In honor of Harry, memorial contributions are humbly suggested to United Methodist Church Outreach or the Carrollton Kiwanis Club.
