McMechan, William Cecil "Bill" passed away peacefully at Island Park retirement home in Campbellford on Saturday, March 11th, 2023 at the age of 98. Beloved husband of Rosemarie Sigrun (née Löwe). Loving father "Pops" of Sylvia (Richard), Larry (Jennifer), Roger (Leslie) and Colin (Catherine). Proud Grandad of Anna (Tomas), Jasmin (Gavin), Casey (Alice), Kristopher (Laura), Catharine (Garrett) and Cedar (Nick), and Great-Grandad of William, Iver, Ivy, Liam and the late Elemeno. Bill was born into his Belfast family and was the cherished son of the late William and Jane (née Bell). Predeceased by his four sisters: Nan, Sarah "Sadie", May and Bette. Uncle Cecil to nieces and nephews Laurel, Michael, Brenda, Rosemary, Noel, Jayne, Stephen and the late Andrew. Beloved brother-in-law of Rosemarie's two late brothers Wolfgang and Hansel, and uncle to their children Andrea, Volker, Axel, Steffen, Holger, Jochen and the late Heiner.

The Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) was Bill’s spiritual home for most of his adult life. His passion for international peace and development brought him to most continents especially Africa where he lived, worked, and enjoyed many adventures. Upon retirement, he was an active member of the Alternatives to Violence Project (AVP) and an accomplished carver whose creative outlet resulted in many beautiful wooden and stone items that have been shared with friends and family around the world. He had a passion for sports and a love for being on the sea riding the winds in a boat under full sail.
