It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mary Heffernan (Bragagnolo) at the age of 93 on Saturday, March 11, 2023. Mary was the beloved wife of Jack Heffernan (2015). Loving mother of John (Fran), Carrie Nethery (Tom), Cathy (Jaylene). Beloved Sister of Kate Rigby (2019) and Rita Syroteuk. Proud Grandmother of Joe and Paul Nethery, Andy and Amanda Heffernan, and Great Grandmother of Lumi, Jack, and Lana.

Mary was a long time employee in the payroll department at the Guelph City Hall. She absolutely loved her job, her colleagues, and loved working for the city. After retirement, Mary and Jack embarked on their 30+ year Florida adventure. They followed the Toronto Blue Jays to Dunedin where Mary and Jack bought their winter home in Golden Acres Park. She was truly a lifelong sports fan and still wanted to know the Blue Jays score the day she passed.

The family and of course Mary herself would like to thank the wonderful Golden Acres community in Florida who all meant so much to her. We would also like to thank her incredibly kind neighbours in Ariss. Special thank you to Drs. Nick and Will Ruddock and their staff, and to her dentist, Dr. Rassam Basma. The care she received at the hospital in Sudbury was filled with skill, care, kindness, and compassion. Thanks in particular go to Dr. Bourdon, Dr. Hayes, Karen Hatton, the HSN emergency department and 5 South.

Mary’s journey was made better, brighter, more fun, and filled with true friendship because of Janice Garvey. There are no words special enough to thank her.

Resting at the Gilbert MacIntyre and Son Funeral Home, Hart Chapel, 1099 Gordon Street, Guelph. Visitation is on Thursday, March 16, 2023 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and 6:00pm to 8:00pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in the Hart Chapel (same location) on Friday, March 17, 2023 at 11:00am. Burial at Marymount Cemetery, Guelph. Reception to follow in the fellowship lounge at the Hart Chapel location.

Please NO flowers, Mary was not a fan. As an expression of sympathy, donations in Mary’s memory can be made to the Northern Cancer Foundation Miles Against Cancer which assists families dealing with pediatric cancer.
