Peggy Rose Zahlman, a beloved friend, family member, and proud American, passed away on March 9 at her home in Elgin, Illinois at the age of 82. Peggy was born in Vernon, Alabama and often spoke fondly of her hometown. Though she moved to the North in her early twenties, Peggy remained true to her Southern roots, always maintaining her sassy personality and generous spirit.

Peggy was a loyal friend who deeply cared for those closest to her. She was known for her love of cooking and always went out of her way to make her famous guacamole and chocolate cake for her loved ones. Peggy made many close friends throughout her life, from her elementary school days to her years of service at Marshall Fields. She was a friendly neighbor who was always willing to lend a helping hand.

Peggy will be deeply missed by her surviving family members, including her brother, Danny Ross (Carolyn Eastman) Johnson; daughter, Lisa Wood; sons, Bill (Sandra Grabinski) Zahlman and Tom (Sara) Zahlman; grandchildren, Chad (Diana Aguilar) Wood, Gena (Ron Phifer) Wood, Carly (Ryan) Corcoran, Dustin Stanek, Allison and Amanda Zahlman; great-grandchild, Kai Wood; niece and nephew, Haley (Heath-spouse, and Vicki Robinson-mother) Pennington and John Ross Johnson; great niece and nephew, Brooklyn and Kye Pennington; and cousins, Betty, Bob Mac, Sue Ella. Peggy's beloved guard dog, Bella, also mourns her passing.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Gena Johnson, her husband, Bill Zahlman, and her beloved pet, Prince. Peggy's memory will live on in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to know her and be fed by her delicious cooking.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 17 from 4 to 8 pm. with a service at 6pm. In the Laird Funeral Home, 310 S. State St. Elgin, IL.
