Wanda Jane Leach, 85, of Marquette, died Saturday morning, March 11, 2023, at Brookridge Heights Assisted Living, with her family by her side and under the care of UP Home Health & Hospice.

She was born October 19, 1937, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, a daughter of the late Garnet Stanley and Ida Mae (Hamilton) Topper. She graduated from high school in Kleinburg, Ontario and later attended NMU taking business classes.

Wanda married Robert K. Leach in Ontario in June of 1959 and moved to the US soon after. The couple were married 55 years until Robert’s passing in 2014.

She worked a variety of jobs over her lifetime. She was employed with Prudential in Toronto, the City of Marquette, Wendy’s Restaurant and various bookkeeping positions. But her most important job was that of wife and mother raising her family.

Wanda was an active member of First Presbyterian Church, RSVP and volunteered at Room at the Inn. Her interests included reading, traveling, baking, gardening and spending time with family.

She is survived by her children, Cindy Parker of Marquette, Gavin (Robin Huebner) Leach of Marquette, William (Liz Grenke) Leach of Calumet and Jennifer (Michael) Thiel of Downers Grove, IL; grandchildren, Christopher Parker, Jessica (Brian) Nancarrow, Aaron Leach, Garrett Leach, Everest Leach, Charlotte Leach and Cameron Thiel; great-granddaughter, Raegan Parker; and a brother, Timothy Topper of Waterloo, Ontario. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Doreen Lunzmann.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 13, 2023 at 6 pm at the First Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be held from 5 pm until the time of the service in the church. A luncheon will follow the service in the church.  Interment will be held in Park Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Room at the Inn or UPAWS (Upper Peninsula Animal Shelter).
