Margaret Peg Richey Obituary

Margaret “Peg” E. Richey, 90, of Ellington, beloved wife of the late Francis R. Richey, Sr. passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2023 at Hartford Hospital. Born December 29, 1932 in Hartford, daughter of the late James and Verna (Boothroyd) Egan, she was one of four children. Raised in West Suffield, but made many places her home, including Wells, ME and Port Charlotte, FL, before finally residing in Ellington, CT. She worked for 33 years at Southern New England Telephone and was also a lifetime member of Telephone Pioneers of America. For the past 30 years she spent her free time quilting blankets and knitting hats for the NICU at St. Francis Hospital, which gave her immense pride. A devout Catholic, Peg was a former member of the Sacred Heart Church Choir. Above all else, Margaret cherished time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Margaret was the mother of four children, including Carol A. Czyzniak and her husband Walter, who spent many wonderful times traveling across New England, Florida and Aruba together. Her three other children include Eileen M. Miller of Vernon, Michael F. Richey of Stafford, and Francis R. Richey, Jr. of Port Charlotte, FL. She is also survived by her five grandchildren, Miranda Lindahl and her husband Mark, Walter J. Czyzniak IV and his wife Krista, Michel Pelletier and his wife Sarah, Paul Gibson, and Shanna Pierce. She also leaves behind 14 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. The family would also like to recognize her good friend and caregiver, Krystal Climan; and her lifelong best friend, Verna Roe.

Her family will receive friends on Friday, March 17, 2023 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at Nicholson & Carmon Funeral Home, 443 East St. N. (Rt. 159), Suffield, CT, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Suffield, CT. A private burial will be held at a later date.
