In 1962 she moved briefly to Santa Maria, CA, where she enjoyed the beauty of the west coast and travelled every weekend to various national parks and cities. Always on the go, Ruth enjoyed hiking and camping. She also loved spending time at Oak Island where the family owned a special beach cottage. A friend to everyone, Ruth would always listen patiently and help with any situation. Her mind was sharp until the end. Her knowledge and outlook on life was remarkable and resulted in many unforgettable memories to those who knew her. Ruth lived her life surrounded by the love of her family and friends, the kinship of animals, and the beauty of plants and nature. A family memorial will be held at a later date. Donations may be made to Trellis of Winston Salem. Mrs. Carter and her daughter would like to extend their deepest gratitude to her caregivers and neighbors, who cared for her compassionately during her time of need. </p>
