Mark Andrew Hanson Obituary

Mark Andrew Hanson, 59, of Annapolis, Md, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2023 with family by his side at Anne Arundel Medical Center. He was born June 20, 1963 in Baltimore, Md, son of the late William A. Hanson Sr. and Irene M. Hanson. He is preceded in death by sister Holly Grace Hanson. He is survived by 4 siblings ; Kathleen M. Hanson (Annapolis, Md), Diana J. Dalakis and husband Sotirios (Greece), David N. Hanson and wife Roberta (Glen Burnie, Md), and William A Hanson Jr. (Murrells Inlet, SC).

Mark grew up in Severna Park, Md. He earned his Associate degree in Electronics and worked 9 years for defense contractor Alliant Tech Systems. Unfortunately, Mark was unable to perform his duties due to kidney failure and went on disability. He joined his parents in Murrells Inlet in 1997, and had been on dialysis for over 35 years.

Growing up close to the water, Mark enjoyed fishing and sailing his Hobie Cat on the Chesapeake Bay. He enjoyed music, often playing gigs with Hot Ice on the bass guitar. When his mobility was compromised, Mark’s passion turned to history and the airplanes of WW2. He joined a flight simulator squadron call Aces High, and would fly for hours. He enjoyed computer art and composing poetry while meditating on the South Carolina shoreline. His passion for life was an inspiration to all who knew him.

There will be a memorial service at St Michael’s Catholic Church in Murrells Inlet on March 13, 2023 at 11am. An interment ceremony will follow the service immediately.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation at www.kidney.org
