Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at 11:00 AM from the Oak Hill Middle School Auditorium, Milledgeville, Georgia. Interment to follow from the Scenic Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Milledgeville, Georgia.
Damarion Quinn Webb Byrd was born on July 7, 2012, to the proud parents of Mr. Chester Byrd and Miss Lynn Webb. Although the middle child, he surely did not fit the stereotype; as he created his own lane and danced to the beat of his own drum. Our vivacious Marion was a gifted, bright, and unique soul that left us too soon. He used his talents and skills to excel in school and across the community. Our family is forever changed and forever grateful to have spent this brief, but incredibly meaningful, time with Damarion.
He was a shining basketball and football player, our posthumous CHAMPS graduate, and future “Track Star” had just started his first day with the Baldwin County Jets Track Club (it was in his genes). Damarion was also a member of Midways Hills Academy Junior Beta Club, Art Club, second place recipient at his school’s science fair, and scheduled to perform: Who am I? “Langston Hughes”!
His presence, laughter, smile, and light will be missed more than there are words to describe. He never shied away from anything including the challenge of making others laugh or busting his best new moves. He enjoyed time playing childhood games, creating unforgettable moments, making connections with his school friends and family especially outings with his grandparents. He was extremely protective of his village. Even though a preteen, Damarion still was never too cool to give a hug or show his love. Damarion Byrd was truly a gift, one we were not prepared to lose.
Marion passed away unexpectedly on March 6th at the age of 10, after a tragic, senseless and cowardly act of violence. This was completely unexpected and our family is absolutely devastated and unprepared. We will mourn his passing greatly. Damarion had a lot of life yet to live and deserved the opportunity to be simply and holistically the shining 10-year-old, with a bright future in front of him. Our very own “Dennis the Menace” was an active and inquisitive child, always wanting to understand how and why things worked and occasionally getting in minor trouble for checking things out. It is struggle to comprehend all the world has lost.
He enjoyed the drives and shopping with his father; while he relished the uniqueness of being both a big and little brother. He was adventurous and gentle. He enjoyed watching movies with his mom. He was a boisterous boy. His teachers described him as questioning and entertaining and he was loved by his friends for his care and consideration. His work in school was recognized not only by his family, but also by his teachers. He was scheduled to test into his school’s gifted program in the coming semester.
Our family was not expecting for his life to be cut so short, but the impression he left on the lives of others will never be forgotten. We are devastated by this loss and will feel the absence of Damarion forever. He was a most loving and most curious soul and a joy to be around. He will be forever missed. Marion will live in the memories of his siblings and his nieces & nephews forever and will be missed more than words could ever describe.
Our family’s prayer is that this be the last time we lose a child, a brother, a son, a family member in this community or any community to something as tragic and senseless as gun violence. We know that as Damarion has received his wings, while he is absent from this physical body HE IS present with OUR Lord and his loving relatives that have gone before him. Even though Damarion was taken from us much too soon, he was able to teach us so much in such a short amount of time, namely to always look on the bright side.
Damarion is survived by his parents mother: Lynn Webb and father: Chester Byrd who will forever cherish his memory with siblings: three sisters: Cheyann Clark, Chelsea Evans, and Aubrey Byrd; three brothers: Tyler Byrd, Elijah Clark, and Aiden Byrd, grandparents: maternal: Evelyn Webb and Johnny Andrews, paternal grandparents: Debra (David) Hurt and Chester Walker, Jr.; great-grandmother: Georgia Walker; and remembered as well as by a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and additional family members, too numerous to name; and a loving group of friends, family, teachers, and classmates.
He was preceded in death by his paternal: great-grandmother: Elvira Byrd and great-grandfather: Chester Walker, Sr., great grandmother Mildred Mcgee & great aunt Bonita Walker.
Damarion was, without a doubt, the most loving child this world could ask for. He was passionate. He made an impression on the lives of all those around him. Damarion we will never forget you and we will always love you. We hope to be reunited with you one day. With much Love,
You may express your condolences in our guestbook.
