Burton William Smith Sr. (12-09-1943 - 02-19-2023)

The son of Irving W. Smith Sr. and Lily Redimarker Smith.

Burton went to be with his Heavenly Savior after a long struggle with cancer. He was predeceased by his parents, his in-laws Clifton Feeney, John Dilworth, Charlotte M. Tucker Dilworth, Peggy Smith, brothers Thomas, Irving Jr. (Buddy), Brian, sister Ernestine and her husband George Lund, many nieces, and nephews.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Lenita Feeney Smith, his two children Burton Jr. (Butch) and Nancy Wilcox and her husband Keven. His four grandsons Timmy, Tommy, Michael Smith, Richard Hall, and one granddaughter Rhebecca Wilcox Estabrook, her husband Mike and all of their families, his brothers Terry, Duane, his wife Leslie, Ronnie Schencks, his wife Elaine, a sister Juanita Arey and husband Joe. Sisters-in-law, Benita Feeney Gaddis, her husband Tom, Belinda Smith, an aunt Betty Schencks Redimarker, two aunts-in-law Brenda Tucker and Priscilla Tucker Hall, several nieces and nephews.

He was always a hard worker and held numerous jobs. He was a school bus driver for the town of Whitneyville for 10 years, He worked alongside his brothers in the wood and construction business. He owned and operated his own business, ‘The Lazy Acres Cartland’ in Whitneyville. He was the crew boss on many blueberry fields and was well-known for growing a beautiful vegetable garden, growing extra just to be able to give a lot of it away. He often was found helping someone in need. He plowed several driveways and recently passed his list of customers to Karry Holland Jr.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, camping, fishing, hunting, and also teaching his children how to hunt and fish. He loved to sing, dance, play guitar, and ukulele. He also enjoyed his many Christian friends very much.


The family would like to extend a thank you to any acts of kindness that were extended their way. These helpful acts, big or small, never went unnoticed. A special thank you to his nephew, Sam Gaddis; your help was much appreciated.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Harrington Baptist Church on April 22, 2023, at 1:00 pm with Pastor Daniel Davis officiating. A committal service will follow at the Forest Hill Cemetery in Jonesboro. Follow the road behind the Jonesboro Town Office on the Station Road.
