Richard Harvey Faulk Laurinburg, North Carolina Obituary

Richard Harvey Faulk

Mr. Richard Faulk of Angier, NC, formerly of Laurinburg passed away at his home on March 3, 2023.

Born on July 13, 1942 in Sanford, NC, Richard was the first child to Harvey and Elsie Faulk. As the son of a farmer, hard work was deeply engrained into every fiber of Richard. The family farmed cotton, tobacco, vegetables, raised hogs and operated a dairy. Richard often jokingly said the best day of his life was the day his daddy sold the dairy operation.

Richard graduated from North Carolina State University in 1967 with a degree in agricultural engineering and went to work for International Harvester in Charlotte, NC. It was there that Richard went on a blind date and met and fell in love with Bonnie. The two were married on January 24, 1970 and recently celebrated 53 years together.

In 1972 the family moved to Lisle, Illinois where Richard continued as the National Service Manager for International Harvester, helping to write many of the service manuals for combines, cotton pickers and tractors. After enduring the cold of the Chicago suburbs, Richard was ready to bring the family back to NC and bought into a partnership with Joe Jordan for ownership of Farm Implement & Truck Company in Laurinburg. Always trying to stay current to improve both himself and the business, Richard was involved in numerous industry organizations where he made lifelong friends.

While living in Laurinburg, Richard was a member of First Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School, was a deacon, and sang bass in the choir. He was also a founding member of Sandhills Community Church in Laurel Hill. Richard always had a deep faith in God and was secure in his love for Jesus as his Lord and Savior. He did his best to live his life with grace and show His mercy to anyone he encountered.

Richard was the president of the Laurinburg/Scotland County Chamber of Commerce, served on the board of Concerned Citizens for the Homeless of Scotland County, president of the Rotary club, participated in Citizens Police Academy, and was an integral member of the finance committee at Scotland Memorial Hospital.

After Richard “retired” he worked with his daughter, Amanda, at The Daily Grind in Downtown Laurinburg. Any time you walked in, you were greeted with a smile.

He is preceded in death by his parents Harvey and Elsie Faulk and brothers, Ronald and Tommy Faulk.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie, of the home. Sister, Marcia Green (Bill) of Charleston, SC. Daughters Karla Faulk of Fuquay-Varina, Amanda Doerffel (Mark) of Lillington and honorary daughter, Vicki Locklear (Jamie) of Laurinburg. Grandsons Charles and Brooks Doerffel and Cameron and Parker Mullen.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Concerned Citizens for the Homeless of Scotland County.

A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 7, 2023 at Laurinburg First Baptist Church. Family will receive friends following the service at the church.
