Marie Louise Chebi Obituary

CHEBI---Mrs. Marie Louise (Delaquis) Chebi passed away to life eternal on February 26, 2023, at the age of 84, in Orange Park, Florida.

Marie Louise was born on February 24th, 1939, in Latakia, Syria to Lucien and Odette Delaquis. One of four sisters, they enjoyed spending summers on the coast of Afamia and the plantation at Bende, Syria. After graduating high school from Mere de Dieux (Beirut), Marie studied nursing in college in Raspail, Paris. She practiced her craft in Paris and then Boston, after immigrating to the United States in 1968. This mission to care for others followed her for the rest of her life with family and friends as she took on the ultimate job of wife, mother, and especially grandmother and great grandmother.

Marie Louise, lovingly known as Maroutcha, married Paul on March 22, 1961 in Beirut and they spent 62 loving years together raising their family, first in Lebanon and Kuwait, then in Boston, until ultimately settling in Orange Park, Florida.

Well known for her gardening skills, you could always find flowers blooming and orchids thriving in her gardens and throughout her home. Maroutcha was most admired for her cooking and baking skills, passing on her talents to her children and grandchildren. Her gourmet French and Arabic feasts were the envy of all, and everyone was welcomed at Maroutcha’s table.

Maroutcha’s greatest passion was for her faith and her family. We will always remember her gentle, graceful and stylish nature, smiling that beautiful smile, with her arms around or lap full of her grandkids. She was truly in her glory being with loved ones.

Preceded in death by her parents, Lucien and Odette Delaquis, sisters Collette Bersadere, Liliane Morcos, Monique Doumit, and daughter-in-law, Lori Chebi (Pat).

Maroutcha is survived by her husband Paul Basil Chebi

Children: Pat Chebi, Carl Chebi (Maggie), Monique O’Mara (Kevin), and Eric Chebi (Jennifer).

Grand Children: April Chin (Brandon), Natalie Chebi (Steve), Cole Chebi, Ethan Chebi, Ashley Chebi, Matthew O’Mara, Emily O’Mara, and Michael O’Mara.

Great Grand Children: Colbie Chin and Rory Harrison

A Memorial Mass in celebration of her life  will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 4th, 2023 at St. Joseph’s Historic Church, 4214 Loretto Road, Jacksonville, FL 32223 with Fr. Sebastian K.
