Ronald Alvin Hodge Obituary

Ronald Alvin Hodge passed away at home surrounded by loved ones on February 20, 2023. He was born May 29, 1948 to Albert and Geraldine Hodge in Portland, Michigan. Ron served 4 years as a Sergeant in the Military Police for the United States Air Force. He was a very proud American and would want everyone to know that Agent Orange, which many vets suffer from, played a role in his death. After his service, he worked for GM and also alongside his father-in-law, Morris Johnson as a well driller; where he would go on to own the company.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Susan Hodge, 2 daughters, Karen (Bron) Magoon and Amy Hodge. He enjoyed spoiling his 3 granddaughters, Elizabeth (Doug) Barger, Emily (Caleb) Smith and Makayla Magoon. He was also blessed with 2 great grandchildren, Victoria and Vincent Barger who held a very special place in his heart. Ron is also survived by 9 siblings: Gary (Barb) Hodge, Irene Miller, William (Barb) Hodge, Connie (Charles) Carr, Linda (Doug) Brown, Mike (Sherry) Hodge, Jane (Keith) Pline and John (Mary) Vander Laan; sisters-in-law, Patricia Johnson and Judy Gensterblum, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Robert Hodge, sister-in-law Sharon Hodge, brothers-in-law James Miller and Paul Gensterblum.

Ron was very involved in his community and served as trustee for Eagle Township for many years and also as a board member for MUCC. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman and often traveled to Canada on hunting trips where he brought home bear and caribou. You could always find Ron after retirement around 9am enjoying coffee with his friends at McDonalds or sitting in his chair watching the eagles fly up and down the river in front of his house.

A Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2023, 11:00 a.m. at Niles Cemetery, Eagle, MI. Visitations will also be held on Friday from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Mills Funeral Home, Peters & Murray Chapel, Grand Ledge. Memorial contributions can be made in memory of Ronald to McLaren Hospice, 2815 S Pennsylvania Ave Ste 4, Lansing, MI 48910.

The family would like to thank McLaren Hospice and the VA for his care and guiding the family through their loss. The family is being served by Mills Funeral Home, Peters & Murray Chapel, Grand Ledge. www.millsfuneral.com
