Arnold Hanke, 86, of Marshalltown passed away on Sunday, January 22, 2017 at the Iowa River Hospice House surrounded by his loving family. A public visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home from 5:00 7:00 p.m. with funeral services held on Thursday, January 26, 2017 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Marshalltown at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family for distribution to local charities. For condolences contact www.Mitchellfh.com or call 641-844-1234. Arnold was born on December 17, 1930 to the parents William and Alice (Bochart) Hanke in Adair, Iowa. Arnold was the third youngest out of 13 children. Arnold attended the Adair School district. Arnold honorably served his country by enlisting in the United States Navy serving from June 4, 1951 until his honorable discharge on May 18, 1955. On August 5, 1956 Arnold was united in marriage to Darlene Chambers in Greenfield, Iowa. The two would make their home in Marshalltown and raise three children. Arnold owned and operated Hanke Refrigeration for over 60 years. Arnold held memberships in the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, and Our Savior Lutheran Church of Marshalltown. For the past 13 years, Arnold ran the ice cream machine for the annual ice cream social held at Our Savior Lutheran Church. In his free time Arnold loved his many fishing trips to Canada with his fishing buddies and playing card games with his family and friends. Arnold loved to watch his grandsons sports activities. Arnolds family was his pride and joy and was extremely proud of all of their accomplishments. Left to cherish Arnolds memory are his wife of 60 years Darlene, children Dennis Hanke, Rickie (Denise) Hanke, and Diana (Tom) Lyle, grandchildren Trent and Colton Hanke, and Ryan Lyle. Arnold is preceded in death by his parents William and Alice and his 12 siblings.
