Shirley Arlene Ohlschlager passed away on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at Iowa River Hospice Home. Funeral services for Shirley will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 3, 2017 at Redeemer Lutheran Church with Pastor Alex Post and Pastor Fred Berry officiating. Public visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 2, 2017 at Mitchell Family Funeral Home where Shirleys family will be present to greet friends. Memorial contributions may be directed in Shirleys name to Redeemer Lutheran Church and Iowa River Hospice Home. Born Shirley Arlene Gummert on May 25, 1929 in Marshalltown, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Edna (Wolken) Gummert. She was educated in Dillion and graduated from LeGrand Consolidated High School. She was united in marriage to Arnold Lutter on March 11, 1951. He passed away in 1961. Then on April 5, 1962 she married Walter Ohlschlager. They lived most of their life in Marshalltown except 8 years in Hollywood, FL. Shirley worked at Letts-Fletcher, Fisher Controls, and 39 years as a distributor for Nutrilite/Amway. She also volunteered for 25 years at MMSC hospital and was a proud longtime member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. Later she traveled extensively to all 50 states and abroad. Shirley is survived by her daughter: Sue (Louis) Willett of Jacksonsville, FL, son: George (Lori) Ohlschlager of Spring, TX; daughter-in-law: Trish (Ed) Ohlschlager of Palmyra, VA; grandchildren: Matt (Ashley) Ohlschlager and Scott Ohlschlager of VA, Denise (Seth) Madnick, Nicole (Mike) Rady and Andrea (Keith) Kirkland of FL, Noelle (Dwayne) Sprayberry of TX, Justin Ohlschlager of NM, Rea (Matt) Turner of VA, and 8 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her sister-in-laws, Marilyn McKibben and Lillian Gummert of Marshalltown; as well as many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; husbands: Arnold and Walter; one son: Edward Ohlschlager; brother: Robert Gummert and one grandson: Marc Willett.
