Gertrude "Trudy" Walsh Obituary

Gertrude “Trudy” Walsh, age 89, of Melbourne, FL, was called home to be with the Lord on February 1, 2023.

Trudy is survived by her beloved husband of 68 years, Lt. Col. (Ret) Eugene “Gene” Walsh, her daughter, Janet Corbett (William), her son, Eugene “Ruck” Walsh (Lori), and her grandchildren, Caitlin Walsh and Blake Walsh. Trudy is predeceased and joyfully reunited with her daughter, Cheryl Ann Walsh.

Trudy was proud to originate from Cherryvale, Kansas where she was born and raised at the “Mangan Farm”. She is predeceased by her parents, Charles and Gertrude Mangan, her brothers, Charles “Bud,” Lawrence, John, Patrick and Jeremiah and her sisters, Emerencia, Rose, Carol Sue and Theresa. She is survived by her sister, Marie Unterreiner.

First and foremost, Trudy was a U.S. Army wife and loving mother of three. She spent the better part of her life moving about internationally, as well as within the United States, where she and Gene made many a cherished life-long friendship. As a military spouse she was proud and dutiful in each new assignment. Later, she had a career as manager of an elite retail women’s clothing boutique in Tequesta, FL. Being a grandmother to her grandchildren was always the highlight for Trudy. In her retirement, Trudy was a founding member of Welcoming New Comers at the inception of Indian River Colony Club (IRCC) where she went to great lengths to meet and share information, flowers and/or wine upon each new homeowner in the rapidly growing community.

Those who had the honor of meeting her have felt the warmth of her smile and embrace … heard the chuckle of excitement she had to be seeing them again … or have seen the spark of joy in her eyes when she first set her eyes upon them again. She will forever be missed by a multitude of people near and far.

Trudy was a longtime parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Viera, FL, and her funeral Mass will be held there on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at 1 o’clock in the afternoon. The family will host a private Repast at the Indian River Colony Club (IRCC) in the “At Ease Club - Main Dining Room,” in Viera, FL immediately following at 2:30 o’clock in the afternoon. Arrangements have been made through Beckman-Williamson Funeral Home although no events will be held at their Rockledge location. Interment will be late March, 2023 at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery in Mims, FL.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the “Cheryl Walsh Memorial Endowment” at the University of Arizona http://give.uafoundation.org/cherylwalshmemorialendowment or payable to UA Foundation, 1111 N. Cherry Ave., Tucson, AZ 85721 with the endowment name in memo line. Questions may be directed to Lt. Col. (Ret) Eugene “Gene” Walsh at: 321-255-6585.
