ELM CITY – Robert “Rob” Selby Benson, age 67, passed away on Friday, February 3, 2023. Born in Wilson County, NC on December 19, 1955, he was the son of Rochelle Baker and the late Bobby Benson. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 44 years, Wanda Daniels Benson.

Rob was the life of the party. He lit up the room with his big personality and “nutty” sense of humor. Rob was a great musician that loved to play the guitar and his Dobro. Although Rob was a painter by trade it was also his passion, he loved that his career introduced him to new people and places. Rob will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him, but his fun loving spirit will never be forgotten.

Rob is survived by his daughters, Caroline Benson (Jameson Murphrey), of Wilmington, Rachel Whaley (Dennis), of Greenville, and Rebecca Benson (Alan Hopkins), of Rocky Mount; his grandchildren, Benson Murphrey, Barrett Murphrey, John Whaley, Sullivan Whaley, and Benjamin Hopkins; his sister, Tammy Long, of Pinetops; his brother, Marty Benson (Lynn), of Farmville; many nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.

A visitation with the family will be held on Friday, February 10, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM in the parlor of Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
