Renee’ Streater Obituary

Renee’ Streater was born to Bertha Lee (Battle) Streater and Thomas Eugene Streater Sr. on June 13, 1955 in Portsmouth, Virginia. She was called home to be with the Lord on January 31st, 2023. She is now at rest in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.


A SEASON OF SOWING…

Renee’ served as a devoted member of New Hope Baptist Church for over 60 years. She was baptized at a young age and faithfully served the church throughout her life. Renee’ could be seen serving as an usher on the usher board committee and singing in the mass choir. She was a loving Children’s Sunday School teacher and loved being an example for the youth. Renee’ also served as the New Hope Baptist Church Financial Secretary for many years.


Renee’s education started in Portsmouth Public Schools. She graduated from Manor High School in 1974. Renee’ continued her education at Norfolk State University, obtaining her Associates Degree in Secretarial Sciences, a Bachelor's in Business Administration, as well as a Masters Degree with a focus in Early Childhood Education.


A SEASON OF REPLANTING…

Renee’ continued to show her Spartan pride throughout her professional career at NSU. She was a smiling face in the Student Accounts and Procurement Services Department for over 40 years. Renee' also served in many capacities supporting the NSU Special Events Department for a number of years. She was known for her passion for helping others and being a friendly face for all. Upon her retirement from NSU in 2014, she became an active member of Norfolk State University Retirement Association (NSURA).


Renee’ joyfully served the Chesapeake, Virginia Elks Lodge Pageant committee for numerous years providing mentorships to pageant participants, while coaching them on social graces and stage presence.


A SEASON OF HARVEST…

Renee’ loved cooking, making her famous chocolate cake, arts and crafts, and shopping. She enjoyed hosting many gatherings at her home, especially her annual New Year Celebration with family and friends. Her contagious smile and witty jokes brought joy and laughter to all of those who knew her. Renee’ was known for her love for Betty Boop and could always be seen in her favorite color red or leopard.


A SEASON OF LEGACY…

Celebrating her life today is the absolute light of her life, her daughter, B’Yonka L. Streater, her sisters Regina Montague, Idell Gatling (James), her brothers Thomas “Tommy” Streater Jr (Deborah) and Dennis Streater (Pamela), a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Renee was preceded in death by her brother Carl Streater and sister Annette Rountree.
