Carl C. Large Obituary

Lakeview – Carl C. Large, age 90, of Alma, formerly of Stanton passed away on Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at My Michigan Medical Center Alma. He was born in Lakeview on June 20, 1932, the son of Lewis and Hildur (Conradsen) Large. Carl was raised in Belvidere Township where he attended the Hillman Country School and Lakeview Community Schools, graduating in 1951. He continued his education at Alma College earning his BA in science and later at Central Michigan University earning his master’s degree in education. Carl married Jane Coles on September 15, 1952, in Angola, IN. He taught science in Portland for one year and spent the remainder of his 30 year career employed by Stanton and Central Montcalm Public Schools as both a teacher and middle school principal, before his retirement in 1990. Carl was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Six Lakes as well as New Life United Methodist Church. He enjoyed flying small engine planes, working in the woods, farming and especially spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Carl is survived by his wife of 70 years, Jane Large of Alma; children, Daniel (Linda) Large of San Francisco, CA, Susan Large of Stanton, Julia Torres of Grand Rapids, Brian (Laura) Large of Novi; 10 grandchildren, Heather Herrick, Jennifer Plowman, Amber Garcia, Kaelinn and Carlos Torres, Sonja Haas, Conor, Ethan, Cora and Megan Large; 6 great-grandchildren, Rebekah, Drew, Joshua, Juju, Rory and Teddy; sister, Pat Timmer of Rockford; brother, Jerry (Margaret) Large of Tampa, FL; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant brother, Kenneth.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at New Life United Methodist Church in Six Lakes with Pastor Mark Mitchell officiating. The family will greet friends from 1:00 PM until the time of service.
