Mary "Midge" Anderson Obituary

Mary Anderson, 77, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2023, at Atria Park of Glen Ellyn where she had been in residence for four years. Born in Glen Ellyn June 17, 1945, to parents William and Isabel Avery, she got the nickname Midge at an early age and went on to be a life-long Glen Ellyn resident. On April 8, 1967, she married Daniel Anderson, her classmate at Northwestern University, marking the start of a marriage that lasted 55 happy years. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two children, Christine (Bradley) Stott and Winthrop Anderson, two grandchildren, Katherine Stott and Thomas Stott, and her sister-in-law, Judith Winchell.

She was preceded in death by her brother, William. Midge had a BA degree in English from Northwestern University and most of a master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Michigan. She spent almost her entire life as a Glen Ellyn resident where she applied her social worker skills as a volunteer with several local organizations. She also was a volunteer at the Glen Ellyn Historical Society and the author of several articles on the history of Glen Ellyn. She was a skilled artist and an active member of the DuPage Art League. She and Dan traveled worldwide before her struggles with Alzheimer’s disease kept her from traveling. Over the years, Midge enjoyed a large network of great friends who enjoyed her intelligence and her gentle nature.

A celebration of Midge’s life for family and friends is planned for some time in the spring.
