<p>It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, grandparent, and great-grandfather , Roy Derwyn Saunders on January 27, 2023 at Tiffany Village, St. John's, NL.</p><p><br></p><p>Predeceased by his parents, Charles and Hazel Saunders, and Brother, David.</p><p><br></p><p>Leaving to mourn his wife of 65 years, Jeanette (Vey). Daughters, Lorna Oldford (Vern), Denise Saunders (Corbett Morris) and Tracey Marshall (Scott). Brothers Douglas (St. John's) and Kevin (CBS). Granddaughters, Megan King, Allison Dawe (Tim), Ashley Wendland (Michael) , Victoria Philpott (Luke) , Laura Marshall and his grandson, Eric Marshall, his forever buddy. A proud Great-Grand-Pop to Olivia King, Ruby &amp; Isaac Dawe, and Cillian Philpott.</p><p><br></p><p>Roy was born December 8th, 1936 to Hazel &amp; Charles Saunders. At a very young age, after completing his studies in Pharmacy in 1957 , he married Jeanette Vey and moved to Springdale NL to open his own Pharmacy. It was there, he raised his 3 girls. In the 1970's, he opened a second pharmacy in Roberts Arm, NL. Roy was always community minded. He was a member of the Lions Cub, Sea Cadets, Masonic and when they moved back to St. John's in 1982, he became a Shriner. He was dedicated Shriner and Mason, and in the past few years, was upset that he could not get to meetings or functions as he would have liked to. In 1990, Roy received the prestigious 'Bowl of Hygeia' award for community service in pharmacy.</p><p>Roy was a wonderful husband, father, 'Poppy' and great-grandfather. He so enjoyed camping and salmon fishing, not to mention a good game of golf. He loved to travel ; especially cruises, where he spent many wonderful vacations. What he enjoyed most of all, was spending time with family and friends.</p><p><br></p><p>Visitation to take place at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Ave on Monday, Jan 30th 2:00pm - 4:00pm and 7:00pm - 9:00pm. Funeral Service at Barrett's Chapel on Tuesday, Jan 31, 2023 at 11am. Reception to immediately follow. Internment will take place at a later date. Donations in Roy's memory may be made to a charity of your choice.</p><p><br></p>
