SNIPPEN, Harlow “Red”

It is with a heavy heart that the family of Harlow “Red” Snippen announce his passing on January 25, 2023 at the Dr. LA Miller Centre in St. John’s, NL at 80 years of age.

Predeceased by his father Harlow Snippen, mother Ruth, brother Ralph, father-in-law Ellis Pollett and mother-in-law Mamie Pollett.

He leaves to mourn the love of his life, Elizabeth (new Pollett), his beloved daughter Tiffany (Steve), precious granddaughter Ava, brother David (Peggy) and sisters Judy and Sue. He also leaves to mourn a large circle of family and friends who will miss his presence and vast knowledge immensely.

Harlow was a proud member of the Neptune Lodge No.22 and the American Lodge Post #9. He was an avid gardener, voracious reader and love to spend time with his sweet granddaughter Ava.

Harlow spent 4 years in the United States Air Force when he met his amazing wife Bet by a stroke of luck. They married and moved to California where Harlow attended UC Berkley and received a Bachelor of Arts with a major in physical science. In the early 1970’s, they moved to Springdale, NL where he taught at the Springdale Campus before moving to Mount Pearl in 1988.

Harlow’s passion for learning led him to continue his education at Memorial University where he earned a Masters of Education Post Secondary Studies and a Masters of Applied Science in Environmental Engineering. Harlow taught at Marine Institute for 17 years before he retired.

A memorial service will take place at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 73 Commonwealth Avenue, Mount Pearl on Saturday, January 28th, 2023 at 2pm. The family would like to request that any donations in Harlow’s honour would be made to the Newfoundland Cancer Care Society.
