Rebecca "Becky" Speier, age 91, of Hays, Kansas passed away Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at Delmar Gardens in Overland Park, Kansas.
She was born August 31, 1931 to Patrick Thigpen and Julia (Bland) Thigpen in Burgaw, North Carolina. She married William H. Speier May 31, 1951, in Fort Lee, Virginia. He preceded her in death on March 21, 1980.
Becky served in the Army during the Korean War Era. After her service, she worked as a hostess at the Holiday Inn and Vagabond restaurants in Hays, Kansas for many years.
She is survived by Timothy Speier, son, Hill City, KS; Robert (Paola) Ames, grandson, Manhattan, KS; Nan Ames, granddaughter, Hays, KS; Rebecca Speier, granddaughter, Los Angeles, CA; Alexandria Speier, granddaughter, San Diego, CA ; great grandchildren: Hannah, Chris, Emily and Robert Jr. Ames; Ronald Speier, nephew, Lenexa, KS; Sharon Speier, niece, Hays, KS; Julia Irene Thigpen Winborne, sister, Hartsville, SC.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Speier; a daughter, Katherine Speier; sons, David Speier and Mark Speier; her parents, Patrick and Julia Thigpen; brothers, Carl Thigpen, Thomas Thigpen, and David Thigpen.
Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Friday, February 3, 2023, at Brock's-Keithley Funeral Chapel and Crematory 2509 Vine Hays, KS 67601. Visitation will be 9:30 AM until service time.
Burial with Military Honors courtesy of the Hays VFW Honor Guard will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Hays.
