Effie Mae Strickland Obituary

Mrs. Effie Mae Strickland, 95, died Thursday morning (January 26, 2023) at her residence.


She was born July 7, 1927 to the late Edgar Carlton Redding and Effie Eugenia Lee Redding in Brantley County. Mrs. Strickland was a homemaker and member of Williams Chapel Baptist Church.


In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, I. J. Strickland; and four sisters, Virginia Redding, Doris Crews, Elvera O’Berry and Pearl Boatright; and one brother, J. E. Redding.


Survivors include her children, Fred Strickland (Mary) of Blackshear, Peggy Wiggins (Pat) of Townsend, Kathy Allen of Blackshear, Martha Crews of Hoboken, Dawn Haynes (Tim) of Baxley, and John Strickland (Betty) of Waycross; 17 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 11 great great grandchildren; her sisters, Evelyn Dowling, Louise Dawson and Bernita Thomas; her brothers, Eugene Redding and Durwood Redding; numerous nieces and nephews.


A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday (January 28, 2023) at the Music Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Thomas Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
