Polly Ann Kirkness Obituary

Polly Ann (Rodgers) Kirkness was a loving wife, sister, aunt and friend. She passed away peacefully at her home on Monday January 23, 2023 at the age of 96.

Polly was born to Charles and Margaret Rodgers on November 17, 1926. She was one of 5 children in her family that included three sisters Berty Reichenberg, Helen Warwick Bulger, Fae Morris and one brother Hector Rodgers.

She attended grade school in Billings and graduated from Billings Senior High in 1944. In her younger years she worked for Dr. Kelly as a dental assistant and then went on to work for the Yellowstone County Auditor’s Office until her retirement.

She would then go on to marry the love of her life Rodney Kirkness on November 4th 1945. They would spend the next 64 years happily married and traveling as often as Polly could get Rodney on a plane until his passing June 21, 2009. They shared one of the truest loves and enjoyed each other’s company unlike many have seen. Polly and Rodney never had any children but they treated all their nieces and nephews as if they were their own. Polly truly enjoyed spending time with family from shopping, to teaching them to eat pizza with a fork (because that was proper) to picking rhubarb from her back yard patch and dunking it in sugar and they always knew there would be a shiny new Christmas ornament with their name on it from her on Christmas Eve. She was a soft well spoken lady that loved to golf, play bridge and travel. Her travels took her to Hawaii, Alaska, Germany, Scotland, Ireland and many other places around the world and United States.

In recent years as her health required more care than her niece Roxie Ann could provide she moved into the assisted living facility The Springs at Grand Park where she received great care and was able to still enjoy many things until she was brought back to her home under the wonderful care of Beth and Stillwater Hospice of Montana for the few short days that she had left.

Polly is survived by her nieces Roxie Morris Zeiler of Billings, Kathy (Larry) Beckman of Utah and Peggy Reichenberg of Billings. Nephews Chuck (Sandra) Morris of Park City, Montana, Bob Morris of Oklahoma, David Kirkness of Billings and Rodger Warwick of Billings. Great Nieces Kelly (Marc) Dannenberg of Illinois, Asia Rae Morris of Billings, Amber Lee (Keith) Sims of Gillette, Wy. Great Nephews Randy (Angie) Gibson of Powell, WY, Jake (Lisa) Zeiler of Billings, Landon Morris of Billings. Nine great great nieces and four great great nephews. 2 great great great nieces and 2 more great great greats on the way. Polly was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband of 64 years Rodney Kirkness, sisters Berty, Fae and Helen, brother Hector, and nephew Rocky Morris and niece Connie Rae.

Per Polly’s request cremation has taken place and no services will be held. Memorials can be made to Stillwater Hospice of Montana or The Springs at Grand Park.
