<p>Gloria Kaye Green Cox was born to Annie Best and Garrette Green on January 14, 1940 in Pamlico County NC. She was educated in the county and graduated from Pamlico County Training School in Bayboro, NC on May 23, 1956. She also attended and graduated from Winston-Salem Teachers College (Class of 1961), where she met her husband of 61 years, Robert Leo Cox Sr. There at WSTC, she pledged Rho Chapter, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. and was active for a number of years as an undergraduate advisor at Barber Scotia College in Concord, NC.</p><p><br></p><p>As an avid and respected educator, she taught kindergarten and special education in Patrick County, VA Schools, Rowan County Schools in NC (China Grove Elementary), and Duval County Schools in Jacksonville, FL. She retired from teaching in Liberty County Schools in Hinesville, GA.</p><p><br></p><p>Her union with Robert Leo Cox, Sr. afforded her the opportunity to serve in varying capacities as a pastor’s wife. She sang in the choirs, taught Sunday School, and participated in missionary activities at Silver Hill Primitive Baptist Church (Concord NC), Hall’s Chapel Primitive Baptist Church (Salisbury, NC) (Riverside Park United Methodist Church (Indianapolis IN), Mt. Olive Primitive Baptist Church (Jacksonville, FL), Midway Congregational UCC, (Midway GA),and Greater Union Grove UCC (Henderson, NC). She served in ministry with her husband for over 50 years.</p><p><br></p><p>To the union of Robert and Gloria Cox was born three children. Carla Kadette Cox Allison (Billy Ray) preceded her in death. Ms. Cox’s living children include Robin Cox Eury (Vincent) and Robert Leo Cox Jr. (Susana). She adored her grandchildren Joshua Allison, Jamarius Allison, Jharrison Gillespie, Leoncia Kaye Gillespie, Robert Leo Cox III, Alexandria Gabrielle Cox (Deceased), and Robert Nicholas Cox. Gloria Kaye has several great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was beloved by her sweet like-a-daughter, Sandra Railey, and God-children, Alicia (Nikki) Railey Moore (Damieon), her children Aliza and Alayna. Several called her mother, advisor, and friend.</p><p><br></p><p>Gloria Kaye was one of 10 children and is survived by her sister Cora Ollison of New Bern NC.</p><p>In lieu of flowers, donations in her name can be made to the American Cancer Society, Susan B Komen Breast Cancer Research, or the Transitions Hospice Home.</p><p><br></p><p>Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00PM on Tuesday January 31, 2023 at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, 1007 S Roxboro Street, Durham, NC. Family will receive friends from 12:30PM until 1:00PM prior to the funeral service.
