Harold Appel Obituary

Harold Appel

Feb 6, 1942 – Jan 24, 2023

It is with great sadness that the family of Harold Appel announce his passing.  The last part of Harold’s battle with cancer saw him admitted to St. Peter’s Hospital in Melville, SK on Christmas Eve.

The son of Fred and Julia Appel, Harold grew up in Grayson, SK.  In 1960 Harold headed to Regina to work and it is here that he met the love of his life, Marguerite Schouten. They married on April 24, 1965 and two children, Cheryl and Keith, soon followed.  In 1970 the family moved to Headingley, Manitoba where Harold drove semi.  The family moved back to Grayson in 1973 at which time Harold took over the family farm as Fred and Julia retired.  Harold and Marge coached hockey and ball and Harold was a part of the start of Polka Days.  In 1983, Harold began work with the RM of Grayson.  By 1992, they had downsized the farm and moved into the house on Lowestoft Street.  They enjoyed having coffee with friends and playing cards, especially “Upser,” which is endemic to Grayson!  Harold was known to everyone as an extremely hard worker and a dependable neighbour.  Harold was a devout Catholic, regularly attending mass at St. Mary’s in Grayson.

Harold is survived by his son, Keith (Donna) of Moose Jaw, SK.  He is also survived by his sisters, Alvina (of Regina) and Freda (of Calgary).  Harold has numerous nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.

Harold is predeceased by his loving wife, Marguerite (2004), daughter Cheryl (2019), and his brothers: Bill (2017), Vern (2020), and Arnold (1953).
