July 24, 1948 - January 21, 2023
Friend, biologist, teacher, author, pilot, philanthropist, protector of animals, lover of nature. Ms. Jones was born in New York, Queens, New York. She received an Associate Degree in Arts from Suffolk County Community College in Selden, New York, in 1968, and then attended Concord College in Athens, West Virginia, where she was part of the Epsilon Delta Chapter of the Delta Zeta Sorority. She was awarded a Bachelor of Science in Education from Concord College in 1971. Flo earned a Master of Education degree from Stetson University in DeLand, FL, in 1980.
Ms. Jones taught middle school in Citrus County, and later worked for the Citrus County Mosquito Control District on the Board of Commissioners (1975 - 1982); as Bookkeeper (1982 - 1998); and Director (1998-2003). She retired from Pinellas County Mosquito Control (2004-2006). She was a member of the American Mosquito Control Association, Florida Mosquito Control Association, Haiti Mosquito Control Association, and the Citrus County Historical Society. Flo doted on her cats Momma, Tom, Dewey, and her favorite little Inky.
Ms. Jones was preceded in death by her father William Jones, Sr. (1916-1987), mother Anne Lloyd Jones (1917-2003), and brother, William Jones, Jr. (1939-2018). She is survived by family and friends.
Services will be Friday, January 27, 2023. 10 am viewing; 11 am service at Hooper Funeral Home, 501 W Main St, Inverness, FL 34450. Following the service, the burial will be at Hills of Rest Cemetery, 7600 S Florida Ave, Floral City, FL 34436. Immediately after the burial, there will be Ziti and salad at Angelotti’s, 130 Heights Avenue, Inverness, FL 34452.
