Barbara A. Bernard Woodward, Oklahoma Obituary

Barbara A. Bernard

Barbara "Bobby" Hampton Bernard passed peacefully in her sleep at midnight January 24, 2023. A memorial service will be held in the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Forest, Louisiana at 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 11, 2023.

Bobby grew up in Pioneer, Louisiana and loved spending time with her father in his General Store. She had fond memories of sitting on his lap and greeting each customer as they entered. She attended Oak Grove Elementary and graduated from Pioneer High School. She was a basketball player in high school, and despite her 5'2" stature, she could jump as high as anyone on her team. Always spitfire, she encapsulated the very phrase, "Dynamite comes in small packages." She enjoyed school and made many lifelong friends throughout her educational years. During her junior year of high school, (maybe leave this out) Bobby married Carl Grey Collins. From this union two children were born, Michael Wade Collins and Carla Gay Collins.

After high school Bobby began a long career in the banking industry. She worked for banks in Louisiana, California, and Oklahoma before retiring in Louisiana in 1992. As a young newlywed and mother, Bobby attended Trinity Baptist Church in Oak Grove, LA. She was most recently a member at First Baptist Church of Start, LA.

In her later years, while attending a class reunion, Bobby was reunited with Fred Stanley Bernard. They were married June 23, 1990, until Fred's passing in May of 2002.

Bobby's pride and joy were her children, grand, and great-grandchildren. Some of her proudest moments were telling stories of their accomplishments. In her final days, one of her great grandchildren, Ethan, told her the news that he was accepted to the University of Oklahoma. She was so proud of him for achieving his goal. She would tell us all, "I might not have been able to give a lot, but you know Maw-maw loves you."

We love you "A bushel and a peck," and we can't wait to see you again for one more "hug around the neck!"
