Joan P. Bell Obituary

Milford – Joan P. Bell (Foley), age 87, of Hopedale, died on January 23 at Maples Rehab and Nursing Center after a period of declining health. She was the beloved wife of the late John L.Bell, who died in 2019.


Joan was born in Waltham on November 26, 1935, to the late Chester and Christina (MacDonald) Foley. She has been a Hopedale resident since 1983.


She graduated from Massachusetts Department of Mental Health Nursing School. She worked for Veterans Administration Hospital for 10 years and previously Framingham Union Hospital for 15 years.


Joan enjoyed knitting, cross-stitching, and gardening. She was extremely active in the Hopedale Senior Center and enjoyed time spent at Foxwoods.


She is survived by: her son: James Smith and his wife Kristen of Bellingham and her daughter in law Linda Smith of North Carolina; her grandchildren: Carissa, Alexis, Katrina, Erica, Melissa, Brian and Chad; 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.


She was predeceased by her son: Harry Smith and brother: James Foley.


A calling hour for Joan will be held on Thursday, January 26 from 10-11 AM at Buma-Sargeant, 42 Congress Street Milford followed by a funeral service at 11 AM in the funeral home.


Private interment at Forest Hills Cemetery.
