Yves Thomas Obituary

Born to Angele Sylvestre and Luc Thomas, at Port-au-Prince, on November 6, 1944, Yves was the third of five siblings: Castel and Yvette who predeceased him, Mimose, and Robert.

After graduating high school at the Lycee of Toussaint Louverture, he pursued his ambition to become a Medical Doctor. His academic goals were impacted by numerous hardships and setbacks, but through hard work and perseverance, he concluded his studies at the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy of the state University of Haiti. Thereafter, he completed his internship and residency in pediatrics.

Yves directed a clinic in the town of Jacmel prior to his departure to the United States, in the late 70’s. He settled down in Brooklyn where for more than three decades he delivered medical care to the community in different capacities, until his retirement in 2011.

Yves was married to Monique Vincent, a young nursing student that he met in 1972. His devoted wife retired early to take care of him until his last breath. He was the father of Nadege and Vladimir.

Yves was goal oriented, self-driven and hardworking, a lover of learning who valued knowledge and encouraged the pursuit of education. He was a patriot who never felt out of love with his homeland Haiti, although unfortunately his health conditions hindered his dream to retire on the island.

He is survived by his wife Monique Vincent Thomas,

his sister Marie Rose Mimose Thomas,

his brother Guy Robert Thomas and spouse,

his daughter Nadege Thomas and spouse,

his son Dr. Yves Vladimir Thomas and spouse,

his grandchildren, Christell, Zareeyah, Marlone, and Prince,

his cousins Lucienne, Raymonde, Nicole, Leroy, and Cleopas,

his nieces and nephews, Marie Michelle, Yanick, Jean Castera, Elsie, Yvetta, Yves, Ginette, Myrtelle, Mackenzy, Martino, Judith, Christina, Jean Anny, Sheila, Sabine, Valery, Winndie, Medjinn, Angela, and Branden.

He also left behind Ricky, Handy, Guerlain, Daphnee, Jocelyne, Rose Marie, and numerous colleagues and friends.
