Obituary

Regina Mielewczyk (Slawecka)

May 7, 1932 - January 19, 2023

Regina Mielewczyk passed away at Glen Hill Terrace in Whitby in her 91st year. Regina was born in the village of Sosnoweczka, in what is now Ukraine.

Predeceased by her father (Antonin), mother (Petronela), sister Zosia and brother Hieronim. Beloved mother of Frank Mielewczyk and Anita Mielewczyk. Babcia will forever be missed by her four grandchildren, Alexandra, Stephen, Nicole and Julia, all of whom she was exceptionally proud of.

Regina came to Canada in 1949 on her own as a 17 year old refugee from a displaced persons camp in Germany. After marrying in 1952, she eventually settled in Oshawa, where she raised her two children with her husband.

She became a member of St. Hedwig’s Parish and was an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary there, volunteering for frequent fund raising events, including Fiesta Week.

There wasn’t a plant that Regina could not grow or bring back to life and everyone happily enjoyed her delicious cabbage rolls, kapusta and pierogi. Regina’s kindness and compassion were exceptional and will leave a lasting legacy for all who knew her.

We would like to thank the staff on 2 south, at Glen Hill Terrace, for their care over these last few weeks.

If desired, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Online condolences may be shared at www.armstrongfh.ca
